It’s a very busy time for Hungry for Music! We have moved into our new to us distribution center in the Shenandoah Valley and we're preparing for our chapter set-up journey, set to kick-off next month at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
We have also already distributed nearly 400 music instruments from coast to coast to deserving school and after-school music programs, as well as supporting social workers who have young clients who can benefit from music therapy.
And it’s the time of year when Hungry for Music kicks off the first of its two annual fundraisers to assist in covering costs of distribution, repairing used instruments, and purchasing new ones.
I would greatly appreciate your support of our music mission of putting quality instruments into the hands of deserving children and helping them along on their musical journey.

Coast to Coast Music Instrument Distribution

Last month, Hungry for Music filled up RAMona the cargo van with a wide variety of instruments and distributed them at stops in Southern Virginia, Louisville, Nashville, North Arkansas, Phoenix, Albuquerque, and Los Angeles.
Well over 100 instruments were distributed including guitars, amps, violins, cellos, keyboards, drums, percussion, and an upright bass. Please check out our Facebook page for more details on these special deliveries. |

A New Home!
A prayer was answered! Needing a larger space, as we had outgrown the last one, this location in the Shenandoah Valley became available at just the right time. We moved in May 1 and it will take a month or so to get settled in. We hope to have an event there soon!

Chapter Set-Up Journey Begins
After a two-year delay, Hungry for Music is set to embark on the long anticipated chapter set-up journey. The first city is Cleveland and the kick-off will be June 25th at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Fam Jam event. We'll be holding a music instrument drive, beginning on Fam Jam day.
The most important aspect of this journey is that these chapters will help us increase the number of underserved children we are supporting, while keeping the music instruments in the area where they were donated.
Other cities that Hungry for Music will be visiting this year include Pittsburgh, Detroit, Louisville, Indianapolis, and Chicago. Stay tuned for more details and news on our website and social media in this exciting time.

Our Baltimore volunteer and friend Joe Compton represented Hungry for Music at the NAPBIRT conference held in Baltimore last month. What is NAPBIRT? The National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians!
We will be needing instrument repair technicians around the country as we embark on our HFM chapter set-up journey. Joe tells us he filled up two sign-up sheets of interested folks. An excellent start!

Shout out to Hungry for Music’s utility man, Sam Tyler! Sam takes care of the weekly music instrument pick ups in the DC Metro area. Sam also recently helped with 10 deliveries of music instruments from coast to coast and has been our graphic artist for over 10 years, designing posters for events and promotional postcards.

Hungry for Music recently received a memorial donation of three beautiful Epiphone guitars and Fender amps from friends and co-workers of Jonathan Lee Horne.
Jonathan was a devoted friend and colleague who changed the lives of countless people in and around the Indiana music scene.
The guitars and amps were donated to W. O. Smith School in Nashville.

A large percentage of music instruments donated to Hungry for Music come from teenagers executing a musical instrument drive for a service project.
We have received support from kids doing Eagle Scout, Girl Scout, bar/bar mitzvah, and high school service projects.
Currently, there are six young adults working on a service project for Hungry for Music and we are very grateful!
This gives us hope for the future!

Partnering To Spread Musical Joy |

We heard from the Spirit of Harmony Foundation about an offer they received for music instrument donations from The Optimist’s organization in Los Angeles, and they wanted to know if we could pick up.
The pick up just so happened to be a half hour away from where HFM Director Jeff Campbell was staying in Los Angeles.
|
|
|
|
|
The donation was almost two dozen instruments that included guitars, keyboards, percussion, microphones, and even a bugle. Synchronistic serendipity!
Thank you again for the lead, Spirit of Harmony Foundation! Most of the instruments will be distributed in California over the next several weeks.

Supporting Social Workers |
|

|
Hungry for Music primarily provides music instruments to Title One elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as qualified after-school music programs.
We also support social workers who have clients who can benefit from music therapy. Last week, Hungry for Music delivered a guitar and violin which will support two immigrant children that are in foster care.

Since becoming a non-profit 27 years ago, Hungry for Music has brought the healing quality of music to more than 16,000 children in 50 states and 32 countries through its musical instrument donation program.
